What to Wear for Your Corporate Headshot

Whether you’re a CEO looking to establish a company brand or a staff member who wants to look professional in their business photo headshot, having a corporate photo shoot is an investment for your staff and your clients.

It establishes a sense of professionalism in your workplace, making you more trustworthy and appealing to existing and potential clients. A quality corporate shoot accomplishes that task, while a bad one might drive out prospective customers.

You don’t want to tell clients that you’re shabby, do you? Everybody wants to look dashing in their corporate shoot! So here’s a guide on what to wear for headshots.

For Business Formal Attire:

You want to be confident; you want to be bold. You want to make a statement to anyone who sees your corporate headshot that you are wearing smart and professional business attire.

We want to ensure that you’re as smart as possible, and we want the attention to focus on your face, not what you’re wearing. That means ensuring your clothes are freshly pressed and fit well; nobody wants to see baggy clothing. You can also avoid wearing bright-coloured clothing or and pastels as they draw attention away from your face.

When taking corporate headshots, I recommend sporting the classic look: a dark jacket over a white collared shirt accentuated with a bold tie (for males) or perhaps a scarf (for females). If you want a little more flair, you can do so as long as it’s within business colours. You can also elevate your look with something that adds personality, like a scarf or glasses. For a woman, subtle jewellery like earrings or necklaces goes a long way!

If you wear glasses and are unsure if you should remove them, we can take two photos, both with and without them. We have to ensure that there are no visible marks on your nose, so it’s best to remove them ahead of time and do the photos without glasses first. Also, if you’re concerned about reflections in the glasses, don’t worry, I have professional techniques to minimise that, and then I can retouch them for good measure!

For Business Casual Attire:

If we say that simple is king in formal attire, moderate is best for casual corporate shoots. That means distracting clothing such as bright colours, branded clothes, or complex patterns is still a big no-no; you’ll pop out like a sore thumb. If you want to feel confident with your photo shoot without looking so uptight and over-the-top, you can opt for a t-shirt or a short-sleeved shirt like a polo shirt that’s neutral coloured.

Also, jewellery is fine, but too much can become a distraction. It would be best to remember that moderation is still vital even though it’s much more casual. Now, you might want to try sporting a tank top or a party dress at your workplace, and I love that you can rock that look, but it might be best if you exclude it from your business wardrobe at least for the photos.

Preparing for your Corporate Headshot

After deciding what to wear for professional headshots, I will help ensure that you show the best version of yourself for the camera; I personally see to it that you look amazing.

After having your hair and make-up done by our artists, I’ll assess how your look and make any final adjustments to remove any imperfections for the photo. From stray lint to unstraightened ties, I’ll ensure you’re the camera’s darling.

And then, I’ll personally walk you through what poses will work best for you, taking several shots to ensure that I have a range of great photos for you to choose from. After that, you’re done!
