What You Need to Prepare Before Your Business Portrait Session

A business portrait session is important, especially to business owners and entrepreneurs who want to make a good impression on their audience. Now, it doesn’t matter whether you’re having a business photoshoot as a branding exercise for your business or you want to impress a specific company. The most important thing you need to think of instead is how to prepare for your corporate photo.

We have prepared some professional headshot tips to help you prepare for your corporate photo shoot.

Decide Your Style

The first thing you need to decide on is what style you want your corporate headshot to have. Do you want to have one of those formal headshots with a plain background done inside a photo studio? Or perhaps you want something outgoing and free like environmental portraits done outdoors?

Before booking an appointment with a corporate headshot photographer, you need to understand what style you want first. That way you will easily find a photographer that can make what you have envisioned come true.

Decide What to Wear

You can wear anything you want during your business portrait — just not those revealing and inappropriate clothes. You can wear suits and ties or uniforms for a company photoshoot or perhaps clothes that reflect the real YOU for your branding. You can even wear correct PPE uniforms if needed.

Here are some examples of outfits you can wear for your business portrait.

Consider Your Schedule

Your schedule is also an important part when planning for a business portrait. Once you get a clear idea as to when you are going to use your headshot photo, immediately schedule an appointment with a photographer you want. This can also help you book a photographer you like before anyone else does.

Get a Haircut

If you think you need one, you better get your hair cut or styled a few days before your shoot. This can help you have wonderful hair in your photos. Plus, it also helps in styling your hair the way you want it to.

Don’t Forget to Shave

If you want to be clean-shaven, it’s best to shave close to the time your shoot starts. If you get a 5 o’clock shadow you may need to shave a second time if your shoot is later in the day.

Glasses or No Glasses?

If you wear glasses because you need to, make sure they sit straight and are not bent. Now, if you only wear glasses for computer work, we suggest taking them off at least 15-20 minutes before the shoot so any red marks on the bridge of your nose fade away.

Consider Your Hairstyle

Do you want your hair to be styled up or down? Do you want it to be behind or on your shoulder? Have a clear vision of what you want your hair to look like in your photos. This way you can let your hairstylist (if you hire one) know what you want to look like in your photos.

But if you really can’t decide, you can tell your photographer and they will gladly shoot different versions for you — like us at Jesse Taylor Photography.

Glam Up

We highly recommend hiring a professional make-up artist to do your make-up for you. Even if you prefer light make-up an artist will be a great help. Now, if you know how to glam yourself, you can always do it. Just make sure to wear make-up that will make you look natural and real. Avoid wearing heavy eye make-up as well.

Get Enough Sleep

You don’t want those dark circles and big bags under your eyes showing in your photos, right? Sure, photographers can Photoshop them but it’s still best to avoid having them. So, if you can, get as much sleep as needed.

Hydrate Your Skin

Your skin plays a huge role in your business headshot. If you don’t want your skin to look shiny, the best way is to moisturise your skin weeks before your shoot but don’t use moisturiser in the hours before your shoot.

Healthy and hydrated skin will look best in photos — trust us.

Be On Time

Rushing may leave you flustered and breathless. So, make sure to arrive at your shoot on time or earlier to avoid a tired look.
